Unlike grand opera, lieder invites the audience into a more personal world - one of poetry, emotion, storytelling and human vulnerability. In this special candlelit evening presented by BellSonance Productions, audiences are invited to experience the beauty of German classical music in one of Brisbane’s most atmospheric church venues.
Taking place at St Mary’s Anglican Church in Kangaroo Point on Friday, the 12th of June, An Evening of German Classics brings together prize-winning emerging artists of Liederfest 2026 in a refined program featuring works by Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms and Hugo Wolf.
Set within the warm glow of candlelight, the concert blends vocal and instrumental performance with an atmosphere designed to feel both elegant and welcoming. Rather than a distant formal recital, the evening aims to create a close connection between performers and audience - expressive, immersive and alive.
The program features a remarkable lineup of young Australian musicians whose performances are already gaining recognition across the country.

Amalia Safonova - soprano & flautist
Emerging Australian soprano and flautist Amalia Safonova is recognised for her lyrical warmth, expressive stage presence and musical versatility. She has appeared in productions with Opera Australia and Opera Queensland and performed at venues including Brisbane City Hall, Parliament House and the Queensland Conservatorium.
Currently studying voice and flute at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Amalia has received numerous awards and continues to establish herself as one of Australia’s most promising young vocal artists.
Silas Gregory - bass-baritone
Japanese Australian bass-baritone Silas Gregory has quickly distinguished himself through his expressive artistry and strong operatic presence. A recipient of the 2024 Margaret Nickson Award, Silas has performed roles including Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola) and Allazim (Fidelio), and has collaborated with Queensland Art Song Festival and Musica Viva Australia.
Dallas Tippet - baritone
Baritone Dallas Tippet recently completed his studies at the Queensland Conservatorium and has already built extensive experience across opera, oratorio and concert performance. His operatic appearances include Gianni Schicchi, Iolanthe and Acis and Galatea. Dallas is also the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards supporting emerging classical artists in Australia.
Artemii Safonov - pianist & composer
Brisbane-based pianist and composer Artemii Safonov is known for his work as both a soloist and collaborative pianist. He has performed at Brisbane City Hall and QPAC alongside members of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Ensemble Q. As an accompanist, he regularly collaborates with vocalists and instrumentalists across Australia and recently served as an official accompanist for the Queensland Vocal Festival Competition.
Emily Thompson - violin
Violinist Emily Thompson joins the program as a guest instrumental artist, contributing to the chamber atmosphere of the evening with expressive and intimate performance.
