Brisbane-based double bassist, multi-instrumentalist and composer, currently studying at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Oliver frequently collaborates with BellSonance Productions as a core artist.
Biography
Based in Brisbane, Oliver Murphy is a double bassist, multi-instrumentalist and composer currently completing his second year of double bass studies at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University under Phoebe Russell.
He teaches at St Peters Lutheran College and is a 2026 Upbeat Artist with Camerata - Queensland’s Chamber Orchestra. He also performs as a casual musician with Queensland Symphony Orchestra and is a featured Young Artist with Ensemble Q.
Originally from Toowoomba, Oliver has performed with the Australian Youth Orchestra for several years and has also performed with the Australian Doctor’s Orchestra, North Queensland Chamber Orchestra and Southern Downs String Ensemble. In 2026, he undertook residencies at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) and Adelaide Bass Day, where he performed in a joint recital with Phoebe Russell.
Oliver frequently collaborates with BellSonance Productions as a core artist and has a strong interest in solo and chamber music, particularly the close collaboration and communication involved in ensemble performance.
He is supported by Atelier Puglisi through the loan of one of its original instruments. Beyond double bass, Oliver is a proficient violinist, violist and cellist. He is also a composer and the youngest person to win Queensland Conservatorium’s ScoreIT film-scoring competition.
His broader musical experience includes work as a Music Director and Concertmaster, co-founding community concerts, commissions for studio recordings and experience in music production.
Oliver hopes to build a multifaceted career encompassing solo, chamber and orchestral performance.
